Halfrounds and Demilunes

These halfround and demilune tables are small tables that serve well as end tables. The ones shown here are approximately 18" to 20" in diameter and about that in height. Placed with the straight edge against an easy chair they make a good place to put lamps and drinks. They can also be made standard table height (30"). At this height they work well with a matching mirror in a hallway. The tops can also be made in a half-sunburst pattern. See my recent work for taller demilunes.

Cherry and Birdseye Maple Demilune

This table has what I call 'goat feet', an applied bead along the bottom of the apron, and a birds eye maple top panel. A detail of the top is offered below. The warmth and richness of the cherry and the fascinating figure of the maple top contrast without clashing. Finished in lacquer.

Mahogany and Satinwood Burl Demilune

This table also has 'goat feet', an applied double bead along the bottom of the apron, and a satinwood burl top panel. A detail of the top is offered below. The mahogany trim and legs are a traditional match for the golden satinwood top. These woods were often combined on the drawer fronts of desks and cabinets and high-end furniture of the Federal period. Satinwood is from Sri Lanka and is prized for its golden bee-wing figure. The satinwood used here is the only instance of satinwood burl I have ever seen. Its sure to be the only satinwood burl table on your block. Lacquer finish.
